Period rooms or reflections of them can be a real tricky venture because if not done wisely, can look tacky and gimmicky or unconvincing. The rooms below represent 3D conceptual spaces from an older era. Though the furniture may not be true to any particular period they’re going for there is no denying the traditional charm in each of them. The designers of these classic and retro style living rooms have added a touch of modernity by mixing contemporary with antique furniture or using a trendy color scheme or pattern that makes them super alluring.

Space Maximization in Japan: OH House by Atelier Tekuto

The OH House gets its name from the family that will inhabit this unusual, but fascinating looking residence. Designed by Atelier Tekuto (Yasuhiro Yamashita) from Japan, this home is 1,5 meters lower than the road in front and was constructed on unleveled terrain. Even though its exterior seems to state that this home isn’t all that roomy, the architects beg to differ: “Upon entering a space, human eyes unconsciously measures distance from perpendicular lines. Thus the OH residence has multi-sided ceilings which surprise people by feeling bigger inside than the outside”. The owners wanted a peaceful and private place which also meant obstructed views of the interior from the street.Yasuhiro Yamashita says that “even though they answered the client’s request to avoid being seen from the outside, they still made the windows as big as possible”. The interior has a few original ideas worth discovering, such as suspended furniture for extra storage space and a dining table that hangs from the ceiling.-via Designboom

Crucifix Surge Suppressor: Shocking or Practical?

Providing â??comprehensive protection from evil, power surges, and AC contamination.â?, this unusual electrical extension comes from architect Alexander Pincus and was designed for Means of Production. What you can observe in the pictures below is a surge protector shaped like a crucifix which has no less than 12 outlets. The project’s name is “Power”, which does not come as a surprise, considering the amount of energy it can offer indirectly. The product can also accommodate oversize adapters, ones that don’t usually fit in a common single power outlet. We have to admit we were a bit surprised to see the shape of this surge protector, but hey, perhaps the designer was not so much trying to shock, but rather offer a practical solution. What do you believe his intention was?- via Dezeen

A Lounge Chair Combined With A Rug

The Loop Chair is the world’s only hybrid of a lounge chair and a rug. It’s probably also the world’s coziest lounge chair, too. The chair is designed by Dutch design student, Sophie de Vocht, and made of 1,000 feet of yarn pulled through a tough metal wire mesh. The seat cover is made with using a designer’s hand-tufting technique. Crossing a carpet and a chair allows to use the warmth and the comfort of a carpet in a different way. At the moment the Loop Chair isn’t for sale but it’s going to be next year thanks to Italian company Casmania.

Modern Apartment With African Elements of Decor

The interior of this large apartment features the mix of modern and ethnic African styles. It has an open plan with a lot of exotic decor elements. Only private part of the apartment, which includes a bedroom, nursery and bathroom, was isolated. The main structural element of the open area is a load-bearing column covered with painted pattern that reminds the skin of predatory animal. The bar counter reflects the geometry of the ceilings and separates the living room from the kitchen.

The game of contrasts makes the interior very interesting. Warm and soft colors were chosen for finishes. The colorful elements of decor looks impressive on such background. The architect has managed to create an interior that fascinates and breaks design stereotypes.
