Eco-friendly Solar Hybrid Air Conditioner from LG

Sustainable thinking is very “fashionable” right now and we couldn’t be happier. This weird looking- but amazing design concept comes from LG and although it may seem like a regular air conditioner, it is not. Attached to the outdoor unit there is a solar cell system which can produce enough power (70 watts/hour) to ensure a part of the air conditioner’s energy supply. Sure, the dimensions of the addition are considerable, but this should not even matter, considering the benefits.  This is an unbelievable idea that could really take off and be applied for a lot of household items. Imaging having smart systems attached to your appliances- this would not only decrease the bill at the end of the month but also contribute to a sustainable environment worldwide.-via Designboom

Elegant Triptych Lighting Set, a Tribute to St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow

This elegant lighting set comes from DZstudio and was inspired by one of the major symbols of Moscow, St. Basil’s cathedral. Guarding the Red Square, this imposing building has intrigued many artist throughout the years. Its colorful domes are absolutely stunning in architecture and full of symbols. Having the shape of flames, they are said to state that “every man is the light of the world”. This is probably how the idea for this lighting set was born. “Basil’s Triptych” is a reiteration of three domes belonging to St. Basil’s cathedral. Elegant and with a simple color palette, they fit well in a classic interior, but also in a contemporary one decorated with style. This is an original lighting design to own, especially if you appreciate Russian culture.-via +Mood

Simple Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Like Home

Apartment living can be exciting, and fun. If it’s your first or you twentieth, apartment dwellers enjoy the freedom of mobility, and living with roommates and friends. While others don’t enjoy living in an apartment because they feel like they are restricted and tied into the appearance of an apartment.  Before you get too upset, check with your landlord or apartment management company to find out what the decorating guidelines are for your place.  Once you know, follow these tips on how to make your lifeless apartment feel like home.

ANALYZE: Take a look at your apartment room by room, and analyze its good and bad points. Make a list of what areas you’d like to accentuate and what areas you want to minimize.  If you don’t have any windows in a room, note that you want to bring light colors, and more lighting into the space. If you love the view out of the living room, note that you want the couch to face in that direction.  Analyzing the space will give you a plan to move forward in making the space your own.  Visualize how it WILL be one day.

Simple Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Like HomeBUDGET: Determine how much you have to spend before you hit IKEA! It’s easy to say you only need a few items, and then 3 stores later you are $500.00 over budget. Have a small budget? Buy key items that will go a long way. Area rugs, window treatments, bedding, and towels are all items that are relatively inexpensive, but can add color and warmth to your apartment immediately. If you have a larger budget, purchase furniture pieces that are necessities first. A bed, sofa, and dining room table/chairs may be important for entertaining. If you have multiple roommates, ask them to split the cost of large ticket items.

Simple Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Like HomeCOLOR: Often times, your landlord will let you paint because it’s not interfering with the structural integrity of the apartment. Painting is the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to change the mood and décor in a space.  Be creative with coordinating colors throughout your apartment. For smaller apartments, use lighter colors, especially if there are minimal windows.  Management said ‘No’, to painting the walls? Consider using fabric hung with nails, and room divider screens to bring color, personality and definition to your apartment.

Simple Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Like HomePERSONAL TOUCHES: Have you ever heard the saying, “Home is where you lay your hat?”  It means your home is wherever you call home. Display pictures, memorabilia, and personal items from your previous home in your new apartment. Frame collectibles and sentimental items in decorative frames, and shadow boxes to make you feel comfortable. Bring items from your last loved home into your new apartment.

Your apartment is only a few details away from making it look and feel like home.

Space Saving Apartment That Can Transform Itself Into 24 Combinations

Here is a mind boggling piece of space saving wizardry by Hong Kong based architect Gary Chang that helped him transform a tiny cramped apartment into something really special. With the use of accordion-like wall units, he is able to create at least 24 different room configurations out of his 344 sq. ft apartment. Gary calls the house a ‘Domestic Transformer’. The futuristic sliding wall mechanism he devised virtually enables the interiors to change to different forms to suite different purposes.

Check the video out.

Leather Lamp Shades - contemporary lamp design by Enrico Zanolla

Leather Lamp Shades - contemporary lamp design by Enrico Zanolla

The new Clamp lamp is big and bold, with traditional yet totally unexpected detail. Designers Enrico Zanolla and Andrea Di FIlippo of DZstudio were inspired by the classic Capitonne (Chesterfield) pattern, and has re-constructed it in lamp form, complete with a leather “upholstered” lamp shade and adorned with buttons. And as a great source of light, this lamp is great for the kitchen, dining room, living room, dressing room or library. The look is luxurious, but not over the top. It will easily work with clean, contemporary and even modern-minimalist interior designs. Check out this contemporary lamp design at DZstudio and Behance.

Fun Outdoor Furniture - modern rattan by Onyx

Fun Outdoor Furniture - modern rattan by Onyx

We like to describe this fun outdoor furniture collection by Onyx as “sculptural rattan.” Designed by Gaetan Van de Wyer, a traditional woven material takes on the most modern forms that are as artistically inclined as they are inspired by nature. The Oxbow sofa features organic lines and offers seating for three – an essential for your modern outdoor lounging area. Pair it with the Just C! coffee table, which fittingly takes the shape of a “C” and provides a place to put your drink or a beautiful potted plant. For something a little different, check out the Moebius double armchair – a cozy spot for two. And then there’s the Klein chair, the Spoon chair and the Bulb chair with a built-in lamp, both making a fun addition to your favorite book nook. The Loop and Hula-Hoop stool and coffee table make a great pair indoors and out. And end the collection with a Dot – the Dot stool that is, a great piece inside, outside, in any corner, it’ll get lots of use and look great too! Check out this modern outdoor furniture collection by visiting Onyx.
